Celebrate your wins!
Do not allow anyone to make you feel that your win isn’t big enough.
Most times how you celebrate your wins is directly proportional to how much you treasure and appreciate your path, process and everything you ever earned. Comparing their medals with yours could make yours look so small and not worth celebrating. If you ever find yourself in that situation, you’re on a downward spiral that will end in blindness.
What do I mean?
What you have will get tinier and tinier in your view until it feels like nothing. This is the point where it gets daisy. If your win is that small in your eyes, you can imagine how small it’s going to be in other people’s eyes, not because others feel your win is small but they will learn the attitude from you because yeah, what is the point of celebrating with anyone who feels what they have achieved is not worth celebrating.
If you are ungrateful, myopic, and do not see how this path gets bigger, how the small business becomes a huge conglomerate, how your talent pays your bills and flies you across the globe. If you can’t, others won’t.
I can predict how far anyone will go by how they regard their current win, how they treat their current success. When you celebrate the medal you have now, you are not celebrating the NOW. You are celebrating the journey, the progress, the continuity. I know this because I’ve been there. Appreciation gets lower and lower until people don’t see a point anymore. Hope is cannibalised by lack of appreciation. This is the dungeon where potentials are buried. Do not allow anything to take you there.
If you are not excited by your current victory, you have probably opened the door to comparison.
No matter how you fantasize about other people’s medals, it is not yours and it can never be yours. You had better blow some air into your balloon. You only have a chance of growing the wins, progress, business, and success you are excited about. It’s like abandoning your child just to take care of another person’s child. It’s self-destructive, like spitting at yourself. It doesn’t make sense.
Melissa Russell in her 2024 article, Why Celebrating Small Wins Matters for The Harvard School Blog wrote this,
By celebrating small wins, you can hone skills such as maintaining focus, goal setting, prioritizing, and organizing, which can lead to greater self-confidence and self-esteem. Celebrating each small step creates a sense of purpose as you navigate life’s challenges, whether big or small.
The simple act of striking out a task on my to do list after execution boost my productivity and inspire me to double down on the rest of the task.
Excitement supplies the fuel to the next phase. If you are so obsessed about other people’s win that your win begins to look like a waste of effort, you are on a downward spiral, you will lose in the end. Do not exaggerate your win or inflate your importance, but be conscious and appreciate yourself for the effort you put in.
In his book, Daring Greatly, Brene Brown wrote, Joy comes to us in moments — ordinary moments. We risk missing out on joy when we get too busy chasing down the extraordinary.”
Take your pen today, scribble your ‘little’ wins. Reflect on how you longed to be where you are now. Appreciate the process and the path that brought you here, your consistency, focus and hard work. Do not stop there, expand the corridors in your imagination, create extra rooms of improvement, create extensions, see how your current input expands into bigger frontiers. Forecast growth. If you don’t write them them, there are chance you are not reflecting on them enough. Yeah, they will slip through your grasp.
I hope this helps. Have a great week and breakthrough from within
