Without new knowledge, there's no future. We have to continuously learn in order to BECOME, there is no progress without knowledge. Truly we die the day we stop learning.
Our hopes, our aspirations, border on knowledge. New vistas appear when we acquire new knowledge. Possibilities emerge when light falls on our perspectives.
Knowledge initiates acceleration because there is a sense of direction.
If you see anyone juggling with new information, they are about to change levels. Anyone addicted to what they've always known will preserve the status quo and remain on the same spot. New knowledge equals new hack!
Every day requires a different level of information. What we know yesterday was good for yesterday, tomorrow is a different ball game that requires updated input. People who enter a new day with expired information never experience the newness of the new day, the calendar will change but they don’t.
Nothing changes levels like new knowledge. If you want to reinvent yourself, acquire new information. It's like updating the OS of a device. We don't have to keep changing the device but the operating system requires constant upgrades.
“Oh, I need money” Upgrade your information on making money. “I want to feel better in my body” Get information on eating and living healthy. You don't have to wait till something breaks. The death that happens with living with old information is gradual. It's called deterioration. I call it stylish death, the death that happens almost without notice. You'd be there but life will slowly move away from your circumference.
Ask about the new stuff happening in your industry and move. Pivot. Pivoting is not a party that you get an invitation to. Traffic will only start reducing around where you are and you will be wondering where people are moving to. People will just use less and less of that product and before you notice, they've moved on to the next happening thing. Reinvention is a necessity for survival.
Someone you know is taking another course, learning a skill, applying for a fellowship, writing for a collaboration, apart from what you know them for. They're adding to their skills. Change happens slowly. As slow as the replacement of dead skin or cells. Rebirth yourself. People who renew their youth with new knowledge are always relevant.
And dang! reinvention is demanding, requires discipline, consecration, thick skin, and being satisfied with difference.
I've never seen a snake moult before but I've seen their transparent shell on the citrus tree in my parents' home many times in Ibadan. It must be pretty difficult to release that old skin. They go to a top branch alone, to cast off their dead skin. They also do it at night because we just wake up to see their long translucent material that looks like a nylon wrap.
Reinvention is a private business and we will do it as long as we live if we want to merit the rare privilege of living.
To not reinvent is to dilapidate and self-destruct. It is to break down like an old wall or worn hinges.
Our chance of success is sharpened when we reinvent. We become more qualified and positioned for new opportunities. Opportunities are everywhere but we can only harness the ones we are qualified to take.
People will only trust you with what you can handle. Trust comes by knowledge, capacity, and integrity. Even God doesn't trust a neophyte, or a greenhorn with sophisticated systems to avoid accidents.
That is why even an heir while he is still a child is not different from a slave, although he is the owner of everything. Galatians 4:1
