You can lose your ability and become an handicap just by saying to yourself “I can’t”
Explaining the concept of self-Efficacy, Albert Bandura wrote,
“People who believe they have little control over their lives are more likely to give up when challenges arise”
In his research, he showed that belief in one’s capability directly affects performance, persistence, and even physiological stress responses. When people say “I can’t”, the brain reduces effort allocation, not because of incapacity but because of expectation.
It’s not a spell, it’s not a curse it was you who cut off blood from a cell that needs streams of optimism to survive. I know that people said you can’t but you partnered with them by refusing to push the button. It was an organized production against yourself starring you as a major cast member.
Modern brain imaging confirms that unused skills literally lose neural efficiency. The brain prunes what is not exercised.
Donald Hebb says “Neural circuits that are not actively engaged weaken over time”.
Abilities are volatile. They are trapped gases that diminish when we don’t use them. They are muscles that shrink when we don’t exercise. They are conversations that fly away when we don’t voice them. They are oils that go rancid when they are not used.
You will open the jar one day on the quiet shelf where you kept it and the gum would have dried. You’d try to touch it and it won’t stick. The paper you need it for will look at you and sigh.
Abilities cannot be stored or saved away in an airtight container, they lose moisture and dry up.
Sometimes when the paper is ready, the poetry is gone.
When the voice is ready, the music is gone. When the robe is ready, the party is over.
I’m not talking about talent, I’m talking about ability. You might dismiss talent but you can’t deny ability. Stop saying no to yourself.
Have a great week and breakthrough from within.
